Job Description – Crime Command Enquiry Officer

As an Enquiry Officer within Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Crime Command, you will be instrumental in supporting us to investigate some of the most serious and complex criminal offences – obtaining critical evidence and ultimately assisting us to secure justice for victims. 

Teams within Crime Command carry out investigation duties to identify the perpetrators of serious crimes, including serious assaults, rape, child abuse and other offences, such as domestic abuse.

Your main responsibilities will be as follows: -

  1. Conduct and carry out enquiries relating to Crime Command investigations at the direction of managers.
  2. Work with witnesses, draft and obtain statements as required.
  3. Take possession of, and accurately record exhibits in accordance with legal requirements, policies and procedures.
  4. Liaise with third party agencies to obtain relevant information/evidence and to safeguard vulnerable individuals.
  5. Produce relevant reports/files – prepare files for presentation to the CPS and present evidence which may be used in court.
  6. Work to an agreed case investigation plan and adhere to time guidelines.
  7. Maintain and use a good working knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures.
  8. Update force systems for use in case investigation and presentation.
  9. Prioritise and organise own workload to ensure adherence to required timescales.
  10. Contribute to the development of intelligence by using analytical skills and reviewing of databases, collect and input intelligence where required.
  11. Collate documentary evidence for the preparation of civil orders and disruption processes, liaising with legal departments if necessary.
  12. Liaise with other forces and outside agencies to progress investigations or identify risk.
  13. Drive police vehicles (unmarked). Must be prepared to travel in order to progress an investigation.
  14. Escort prisoners if required.
  15. Maintain an accurate record of daily activities using an Investigator’s Day Book.

The following experience and qualifications are required for the role:-

Essential Skills

  • Educated to A level standard or equivalent work experience
  • Worked within a police environment and can evidence ability to investigate criminal offences
  • Can display evidence of knowledge and understanding of criminal law and ability to adhere to legislation, policy and procedure
  • Can demonstrate ability to work independently and make dynamic decisions

 

Desirable Skills

  • Has experience of working within a sexual offences investigation team or has safeguarding experience.
  • Can demonstrate ability to interpret data and evaluate information from multiple sources.

 

Normal working hours will average 37 per week however part-time applicants will be considered.  This will be worked subject to the needs of the service and may involve unsocial hours and weekend working as part of a shift pattern (for which an allowance will be payable).
